Now we are adults

Galatians 4:3-4 Paul is implying before Christ we were servants/children in this world but after Christ we are adults in our faith. This challenges being born again but to Nicodemous, a religious teacher, this is what he needed to hear when Jesus told him he needs to be born again in John 3

Adopted children

Galatians 4:1-2 As adopted children it’s like we’re servants until the appointed time.

We’re related to Abraham

Galatians 3:29 When you belong to Christ you belong to Abraham.

We're one in Christ

Galatians 3:27-28 There is no category; we're one in Christ!

God is are guardian now; not the law,

Galatians 3:25-26 We’ve been adopted into God’s family through faith in Jesus Christ so the law is no longer our guardian. We’re children of God.

We were under the custody of the law before faith justified us

Galatians 3:23-24 To protect us from sin we had the law but now we have something better...faith in Jesus.

Scripture locked up sin so we can have the promise through Christ

Galatians 3:21-22 Paul says scripture but when he wrote that it was only the Old Testament, so can we say the law locked up sin so we have access to the promise through Christ? What do you think?

No mediator is necessary

Galatians 3:20 Since Jesus is God He doesn’t have to act as a mediator to God...although the fact that He was human makes Him a wonderful advocate.

Why was the law given at all?

Galatians 3:19 19  Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions  until the Seed  to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given through angels  and entrusted to a mediator.

From Abraham to Moses

Galatians 3:17-18 Abraham was given a covenant then Moses was given the law. Since the law came after the covenant does it nullify the covenant...Paul says NO.

Did you know? Christ is Abraham’s seed

Galatians 3:15-16 Paul is establishing that the good news is for Jews and Gentiles so understanding the difference between a faith based religion and a rule based religion is significant. Abraham is known to the Jews, a rule based people, for his faith so Paul places Jesus with Abraham because Jesus is a faith based God/man.

Christ redeemed us and we can receive the Holy Spirit

Galatians 3:14 Christ redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus,  so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

Christ became a curse for our sake

Galatians 3:13

The righteous live by faith

Galatians 3:11-12 The law requires us to keep the whole law which we fail to do but the righteous live by faith.

Blessed or cursed?

Galatians 3:9-10 Blessed by faith like Abraham had or cursed by the all encompassing law.  Where do you stand? ======================================================================== 9  So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. 10  For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.

We belong to the family of Abraham

Galatians 3:7-8 Understand, then, that those who have faith  are children of Abraham.   8  Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” [ a ]

Faith produces miracles

Galatians 3;5-6 5  So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles  among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?   6  So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” [ a ]

Living by the Spirit

Galatians 3:3-4 How foolish are we?  Are we trying to do things in our own fleshly strength or are we relying on the Holy Spirit?  What does it mean to live by the Holy Spirit?

The Spirit by faith!

Galatians 3:1-2 Have you experienced the Holy Spirit in your life?  If so was this experience  because you obeyed the law or because you believed what you heard?  This is the question being asked of the Galatians but it can apply to us today.

Dead to the law; alive in Christ

Galatians 2:19-21 Paul knew the law well...so well he wanted to kill people who believed in Christ but one day God got a hold of his life and transformed it. This so transformed his life he died to the law so he could be alive in  Christ. What is your experience with the law versus the grace of Christ?

If I rebuild what I destroyed...

Galatians 2:18 This is a tough passage for me knowing that Paul tried to destroy the church before his conversion to faith. He however, never succeeded in destroying the church and after his conversion he built up faith as opposed to the law. What are your thoughts on this passage?
